In a 12-week clinical trial evaluating the use of buspirone in combination with coping-skills treatment in anxious alcoholics, patients treated with buspirone showed a trend toward a lower number of drinking days and a lower number of drinks per drinking day ( Kranzler et al. 1994 ).
