This is consistent with a previous study that showed that postoperative levels of inflammatory markers at 4, 8, 12, and 24 hours were lower in the NAC group, but these differences did not reach statistical significance. 17 Another study also found a reduction of the plasma inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and interleukin-1b. 20 Postoperative TNF-α declined in both the study and the control group compared to the preoperative level.
