Brunzell suggested that weight gain should be considered the major cause of dyslipidemia and CVD in type 1 diabetes, terming this “double diabetes.” His studies showed a trend for CIMT to increase as a function of weight gain in the intensive treatment group, further supporting the hypothesis.
