However, consistent with previous reports, all-cause mortality was lower during periods of metformin use (HR 0.75 [0.62–0.93], P = 0.009) in this cohort, as was the hazard of hospitalised HF, although this did not reach statistical significance (HR 0.67 [0.47–1.01], P = 0.056).
