A meta-analysis showed that antidepressants had a significant positive effect on psychomotor speed, but the effect on executive function did not reach statistical significance in head-to-head trials of tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, and norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors. 42 However, significant limitations of that meta-analysis were result heterogeneity, small sample sizes, and a limited number of studies.
