In cases 1−16 (atope group with in situ squamous carcinoma), there was a strong trend for the medial/inferomedial bulbar conjunctiva, inferior fornix and inferior tarsal conjunctiva to be affected (14/16 cases) and the clinical appearance of the tumour was red gelatinous or papillomatous (12/16) (see Fig. 1a ).
