Patients with anemia showed a trend of worse complete cytogenetic response rates and worse survival. 9 In the 6-year follow-up of the Insulin Resistance Intervention After Stroke (IRIS) trial, imatinib was discontinued in about one-third of patients with CML in the CP due to resistance or intolerance. 12 Grade 3 or grade 4 anemia (Hb level < 6.5 g/dL) was observed in 3% of the patients with newly diagnosed CML in the chronic phase (CP) treated with imatinib in a median follow-up of 19 months and in 7% after IFN-α failure.
