However, the difference between the rats that self-administered a drug and those of saline serum is clearly significant, demonstrating that the C+E combination is a clear reinforcing stimulant for animals of both sexes, and that the presence of ethanol does not diminish cocaine’s reinforcing properties, at least in laboratory rodents and in the specific conditions of this study.
