Data regarding the oxidation state of glutathione were not entirely conclusive: the A‐strain showed a significantly higher concentration of the reduced isoform of L‐glutathione (ratio 1.30, P adj = 0.015, Welch's t ‐test; Appendix Fig S3 , Dataset EV3 ), but no significant difference was apparent in the ratio of the reduced to oxidised isoforms, where the median for the A‐strains was 2.01 vs. 1.89 for the T‐strain ( P = 0.289, Welch's t ‐test).
