To summarize: Our results confirm the interesting notion that, while weak electric fields with strengths in the order of 1 V/m that are typically applied in tACS experiments have only a small effect on the membrane potential of a single neuron [ 32 ], the effects on the network however, and therefore on the dynamics of the population as a whole, can be quite significant, which was also observed experimentally [ 49 ].
