In addition, the CatK-deficient apoE – / – mice in this study showed a trend toward increased serum cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride levels and decreased HDL cholesterol levels ( Lutgens et al., 2006 ), while these changes in serum lipid profile are generally considered as the clinical pro-atherogenic factor ( Linton et al., 2000 ).
