A study that looked at the excesses during HIV-1 infection: extremely low CD4-counts (<20 CD4 + cells per μl) and high CD4-counts (> 700 CD4 + cells per μl) presented a significant rise in AVs in low CD4 + cell count HIV-1-infected subjects from United States, however, this AV expansion did not reach statistical significance in Ugandan HIV-1 infected subjects with low CD4 + cell counts (Li et al . 2013 ).
