enic bacteria, subjective oral dryness and unstimulated salivary flow were connected with stress so decrease the protective functions of saliva increasing the vulnerability to dental caries.[ 18 ] Although a lower unstimulated salivary flow rate was found in the severe stress group, this difference did not reach statistical significance; same result was found by other studies.[ 19 ] This is because anxiety and fear may influence salivary flow through pathways in the amygdala, the hypothalamus, and the brain stem.[ 20 ] The salivary flow rate was negatively correlated with caries experience among students with severe stress level.
