A trend for increasing age to be associated with lower CVR narrowly failed to reach significance in our study, but age was associated with lower CVR in several other studies. 40 , 41 , 44 , 45 The lack of a definite age-CVR relationship in the present study may reflect poorer brain vascular health in the younger compared with the older patients with stroke because patients who experience a stroke aged in their 40s or 50s may have worse vascular health than those who do not experience stroke until their ninth decade.
