An additional finding of the present study is that the association between the proportion of people aged ≥ 65 years and COVID-19 incidence proportion did not reach statistical significance at the provincial levels (rho = 0.17, p = 0.08); in this case, however, ISS reported that 38% of COVID-19 cases affected people aged ≥ 70 years, 17% those aged 60–70 years, and the remaining 45% those aged < 60 years, thus suggesting that a large number of people less than 65 years old may be affected by COVID-19.
