When our three measures of synergy changes – the number of muscle synergies, synergy-vector sparseness, and the Merging Index – were correlated with body height-normalized preferred running speed, not surprisingly the correlations were either significant or nearly significant (Supplementary Fig. 6B–D ), but their correlation coefficients were low (|r | = 0.20–0.36).
