Although there was no significant difference in the proportions of individual ω‐6 PUFAs between migrants and residents, the proportion of total ω‐6 PUFA was slightly higher in migrants, driven by the longer‐chained arachidonic acid, which showed a trend toward significance. ω‐3 PUFAs were previously suggested to be incorporated in the membrane of muscle cells in the migrating semipalmated sandpiper to boost their flight performance (Maillet & Weber, 2006 ).
