In another study, Hadaczek and collaborators used high-performance thin-layer chromatography and reported decreases in GM1, GD1a, and GD1b levels in the occipital cortex of Parkinson’s disease patients as well as decreases in GD1a, GD1b, and GT1b levels along with a smaller magnitude decrease in GM1 that did not reach statistical significance in the substantia nigra from Parkinson’s disease patients [ 81 ].
