Some studies (e.g., References [ 16 , 17 ]) showed that O 3 background concentrations have a negative trend associated with the decrease of its lifetime in regions of low NO x (remote regions), leading to an increase in the O 3 levels in the eastern and northeast parts of the United States (U.S.).
