Despite this, findings from cross-sectional and cohort studies are conflicting; cross-sectional studies showed an inverse association between BMI and IBD and subtypes 7 , while cohort and population-based studies have described a positive association between BMI and CD, but a negative trend between BMI and UC 31 , 33 .
