Cirrhotic patients had reduced bacterial diversity, though this did not reach statistical significance. 14 In a similar study by Kakiyama et al. , Enterobacteriaceae and Veillonellaceae were increased in the microbiota of patients with cirrhosis compared to healthy controls. 15 Notably, Lachonospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae families were reduced in the cirrhotic gut. 15 There was also a significant reduction in the genus Blautia , an enteric anaerobe of the Lachanospiraceae family. 15 While alcohol-related cirrhosis was included, it only comprised about 15% of the cirrhosis group, and results were not stratified by aetiology.
