A weakly significant difference is observed between reads obtained using Methods MDE and P ( P -value = 0.034) ( Table 1 ), consistent with previous observations of systematic differences between DNA preservation in petrous and cementum samples ( Parker et al. 2020 ); however, we also note that the use of a bleach-based decontamination step in the MDE protocol may have contributed to this observed pattern.
