This was in accordance with previous studies.[ 9 10 11 12 ] We found a prevalence of LBW of 13.5%, which is much higher than the prevalence rate of 9.6% reported in a previous study which demonstrated also a strong association between PM and LBW.[ 13 ] In the current study, the prevalence of LBW tended to be higher in babies born from mothers with PM parasitemia compared with that of babies born from uninfected mothers although such difference did not reach statistical significance.
