In present study, the population of both fibrolytic and amylolytic bacteria showed a trend towards increased levels with the increase in the gossypol addition dose from 0.25 to 0.5 mg/g, suggesting that energy metabolism could play an essential role in the process of gossypol detoxification by rumen bacteria, and this was also demonstrated by the previous results of Yang et al.
