Currently, there is no randomized controlled trial showing that these therapies improve outcomes in cardiogenic shock; and retrospective data showed mixed results in regard to mortality, but a clear trend towards a higher risk of complications. 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 Fortunately, randomized controlled trials evaluating pLVAD or VA‐ECMO in this setting are currently ongoing. 9 , 10 , 11 Although these trials are limited to patients with cardiogenic shock caused by acute myocardial infarction, their results will be of utmost importance to guide further use of these devices.
