Risk of hospitalisation or death was reduced in patients treated with colchicine (0·5 mg twice daily for 3 days and once daily thereafter for 30 days) but this did not reach statistical significance (4·7% in the colchicine group vs 5·8% in the placebo group, OR 0·79, 95% CI 0·61–1·03); overall mortality was very low in this outpatient population (0·2% deaths in the colchicine group vs 0·4% in the placebo group, OR 0·56, 95% CI 0·19–1·66).
