Population trend according to scientific knowledge and ILK We found that cheetah, leopard and lion have a negative trend index average as they were reported as present or common by a higher number of ILK holders in the past (in ILK holders’ childhood) than in the present, whereas we did not find any difference in reports of caracal, jackal, spotted hyaena and striped hyaena, which have a positive trend index average close to 0 (Table 3 ).
