The mRNA levels of COL4A1 , POSTN , MMP1 and MMP3 normalized to those of GAPDH ( Fig 1C ) or HMBS ( S1 Fig ) showed a trend in the direction of a change observed in the microarray results although statistical significance was not achieved due to the small sample size.
