Flow cytometry counts indicated that explants infected with E1 viruses showed a higher percentage of GFP-positive cells (22.1 ± 5.6 per cent) than E2 viruses (5.7 ± 2.4 per cent) or the founder (11.0 ± 3.8 per cent), although these differences did not reach statistical significance ( n = 3; t -tests: P > 0.05; Fig. 4E ).
