The integrated analysis of nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in a 2011 Cochrane Review demonstrated that the effect of 5-ASA preparations on maintaining remission in CD patients after surgical treatment as an induction therapy was found to be slightly significant in suppressing recurrence compared to the effect of placebo group [ 101 ].
