In human melanoma metastases, increased CD138 + plasma cell counts showed a trend to better patient survival ( Erdag et al., 2012 ) and patients with primary melanomas of > 2 mm in thickness and enriched for sheets/clusters of CD138 + IgA-expressing plasma cells had a worse overall survival.
