More recently, a report from the Society of Thoracic Surgery, covering the period 2009–2017, reported a negative trend in the use of blood products for cardiac surgery; nonetheless, the rate of patients transfused remains high, ranging from about 30% for isolated mitral valve repair to 80% for combined mitral valve and CABG surgery.
