First, in four likely overlapping groups of patients characterized as representing earlier disease, significant or near-significant lowering of mortality was seen with convalescent plasma: among patients transfused within 7 days of symptom onset [odds ratio, 0.92 (95% confidence interval, 0.83–1.03)], patients not receiving corticosteroids [odds ratio, 0.78 (95% confidence interval, 0.58–1.05)], patients not on supplemental oxygen [odds ratio, 0.83 (95% confidence interval, 0.58–1.18)], and patients without an endogenous anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody response at time of transfusion [see Figure 2E —odds ratio, 0.94 (95% confidence interval: 0.84–1.06)] ( 11 ).
