Female gender was also associated with higher in-hospital mortality, and improved the performance of the models, but did not reach statistical significance as an independent variable in either Model 1 (OR: 1.374, CI [0.951,1.994], p = 0.091) or Model 2 (OR: 1.477, CI (0.978,2.239], p = 0.065).
