INTRODUCTION Recent years have seen a significant trend towards increased family‐centred care (FCC), an approach that promotes mutually beneficial partnerships between parents and healthcare professionals in the care of babies in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). 1 The approach can be extended to include the delivery room, expecting that optimal health outcomes will be achieved when the parents play an active role in supporting their extremely preterm babies right from birth.
