injections of dexamethasone given every three days for three weeks after drill-induced injury significantly suppressed the expression of IL-1β and COL1 and showed a trend in decreasing MMP-3 in the synovium, while in the fat pad dexamethasone showed a trend toward reducing IL-1β expression and significantly decreased the expression of both MMP-13 and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) [ 55 ], which may contribute to OA progression [ 59 ].
