Increased concentrations of PCT were strongly associated with bacterial infections in all four cohorts for both the PERFORM and SBI algorithms, and the PERFORM classification algorithm showed a clear trend toward higher concentrations of PCT in children with a higher degree of certainty of having a bacterial infection ( Figure 3 ).
