4 DISCUSSION Overall, we observed a clear trend of decreasing species richness from cooler to warmer ecoregions, with fewer Palearctic species occurring under increasingly arid conditions; this is consistent with previous studies (e.g., Benyamini, 2010 ; Pe'er et al., 2011 ).
