After a dose–response study, which allowed us to choose an oxalate concentration of 50 μmol/g ( Figure A1 ), all of our experiments were performed on males, excluding one comparative experiment that may have shown that both male and females were sensitive to the OXA diet; this is despite there not being a significant trend for more severe phenotypes in females ( Figure A2 ), suggesting that gender does not influence oxalate nephrotoxicity, which is a major advantage of our protocol.
