It should be noted that the association results were in the same direction and were nominally significant in both TODAY and SEARCH individually, further validating our finding. rs14832096 is in almost complete linkage disequilibrium with 9 variants in SUCLG2 -AS1, but all of them are intronic, and given the lack of functional studies, their consequences on gene expression or function are difficult to predict.
