The frequency of hand hygiene including washing with soap or sanitizing with alcohol-based hand rub has been reported as critical risk factor in recent studies.[ 2 , 3 ] In the present study, although a higher proportion of participants with hand washing or sanitizing frequency of >10 times had HE (69.6% versus 58.6% for hand washing and 67.9% versus 60.4% for hand sanitization), this difference failed to reach statistical significance.
