Average pre-operative pain score was 5.8/10 (SD 2.4); two-week post-operative pain score was 4.0/10 (SD 3.1) Patients in the prophylactic group had a significant post-operative pain reduction of 1.8 points (p = 0.009); however, a similar reduction in pain in the therapeutic group of 1.7 points did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.072).
