This is quite significant because compared with daytime and office BP, nighttime BP is a better predictor of all cause and cardiovascular mortality among both men and women of all ages. 24 Depression is associated with loss of 28.9 years of quality‐adjusted life expectancy at age 18, among US adults; only 0.41 years of that was due to suicide and 0.26 attributable to depression alone. 41 Another nationwide study found that anxiety/depression was associated with increased mortality (HR 1.6 with a 95% CI: 1.4, 1.8). 42 Treating depression and anxiety is important for variety of reasons.
