Although some few statistically significant differences emerged, and two studies [ 22 , 23 ] showed a trend towards a positive effect from adding metronidazole to the regimen, we were not able to demonstrate consistent results to recommend neither the type of antibiotics, the route of administration or the duration of treatment.
