Due to forest fire and the associated emission of particulate matter, a positive trend in PM 2.5 and PM 10 concentration was observed in the North-western and Western United States (the most fire-prone region in the US), compared to the other areas of the country for which a negative trend in PM 2.5 was recorded during the study period.
