It is also possible that, as mentioned above, circulating tumour cells (CTCs) which are present in the blood of patients with metastatic prostate cancer [ 45 ] could precipitate with blood cells, contributing to the increased level of alpha satellite RNA, although due to the low number of CTCs relative to blood cells, this contribution is probably not significant.
