In fact, the Tests of Fixed Effects ( Table A1 , Table A2 and Table A3 ) indicate a non-significant effect for ‘trt’ (as expected, because the intercept was always 0 by design, since only non-germinating seeds were used for the experiment) and a highly significant effect for ‘trt * spltime’, which means that what the treatments caused in this experiment was not a vertical shift of an overall curvilinear trend (assessed at time = 0, since ‘trt’ is modelled in terms of a separate intercept for each treatment when a spline effect is present), but rather a change of its shape.
