Although the primary endpoint did not reach statistical significance for the entire study cohort, adding gabapentin to standard management of acute VOC for the subgroup of patients with the HbSS genotype resulted in a significantly greater reduction in pain scores from presentation to discharge from acute care setting when compared to the addition of placebo.
