This is in line with a study investigating predictors of fatigue in individuals recovering from the acute phase of COVID-19: while the female sex and a comorbidity of depression or anxiety were identified as significant predictors for developing fatigue, indicators of COVID-19 severity, markers of peripheral immune activation, and circulating proinflammatory cytokines did not reach statistical significance ( 62 ).
