There is a clear trend in the bulk carbon isotope values, suggesting thermal maturity decreasing from group A3 to group A1 and the algal bloom increasing from group A3 to group A1 as well. 4.1.3 Aliphatic Hydrocarbon 4.1.3.1 n -Alkanes and Isoprenoids The n -alkane distributions are widely used to distinguish sources of OM and evaluate the thermal maturity of crude oils and source rocks. 27 , 28 GC–MS analyses performed on saturated hydrocarbons of the sub-sag A oils show that the carbon number of the n -alkanes ranges from C 10 to C 40 ( Figure 5 ).
